Amanda knows that firsthand.
Her path toward family-building has unfolded over several years, shaped by unexpected changes and a determination to keep moving forward. A sudden job loss shifted her world in ways she never anticipated.
“I thought of this layoff as a sign to do IVF,” Amanda shared. “I did it religiously.”
But life continued moving around her. Things became hectic, and treatment eventually paused for nearly a year. When Amanda and her husband felt ready to try again, they gained access to WIN benefits through her husband’s employer. That’s when Amanda met Laurie, her WIN Nurse Care Advocate.Their connection was immediate.“Laurie has been my person. I’ve liked her since day one.”
With Laurie’s clinical guidance, Amanda restarted testing and took time to fully understand her options before moving forward. Together, they focused on building a complete picture first—ensuring the right assessments were in place and considering the least invasive, evidence-based approaches before progressing to more advanced treatment. Amanda began with several IUIs, allowing her care team to thoughtfully explore next steps and make informed decisions along the way. When IVF ultimately became the recommended path, she felt more prepared and confident in the direction ahead. But the process wasn’t easy.
After feeling uncertain about her experience with one clinic, Amanda decided to seek another option after a recommendation from a friend. Throughout the process, Laurie remained a steady source of support—helping Amanda navigate questions, understand her options, and make sense of what came next. To Amanda’s surprise, the new practice had availability the following week, helping her feel confident she was moving in the right direction.
As she moved forward with her new care team, there were still important milestones ahead before beginning IVF, including meeting a specific weight requirement. While not easy news to hear, this time the goal felt attainable and Amanda had a support system helping her move toward it.
Determined to move forward, Amanda committed herself fully to the process. Working alongside a nutritionist at her gym and with ongoing support from Laurie, she focused on making sustainable changes and ultimately met the goal required to move forward with IVF. Throughout the process, Laurie remained a constant source of guidance and encouragement.
“Amanda has demonstrated amazing resilience and perseverance. Her spirit has shined through the ups and downs of fertility care, and she has never once given up hope.”

“[Laurie] kept me going. She has made this time of my life a lot more educated and has made me more knowledgeable.”

Amanda’s support also expanded beyond fertility treatment itself. Following one of her retrievals, Laurie recommended an additional conversation with Sylvia, WIN’s Nurse Care Advocate Health Coach. At the time, Amanda was struggling with self-doubt and feeling discouraged by the physical and emotional demands of treatment.Sylvia remembers those early conversations vividly, sharing: “Amanda trusted her primary NCA, Laurie, and me to hold her hand as she made small steps towards healthiness. If she fell we picked her up, when she danced for joy, we danced with her. Every small effort was a success.”
Together, Amanda and Sylvia focused on areas that could support her overall health, including nutrition, supplements, and daily habits. Amanda credits that guidance with helping her feel more informed and confident throughout the process and believes it contributed to stronger results in subsequent treatment cycles.
When working with Sylvia, Amanda saw meaningful improvements in her bloodwork and overall health. “She’s helped me food-wise, with my nutrition, and supplements to take. I don’t think I would have had the best result I had in the last round without her.”
Looking back, Amanda says some of the biggest changes extended beyond clinical outcomes.
“This experience within this last year has made me learn to love myself and my body. I’m not defined by a size and I won’t ever be.”
For Amanda, the value of support wasn’t only in appointments, testing, or treatment plans. It was having someone help translate complex information, answer questions, and provide guidance throughout moments that felt uncertain. Her advice to others navigating similar experiences is simple: ask questions.
“WIN and the nurses helped me understand things I never would have figured out on my own. When you’re sitting in a doctor’s office, so much gets thrown at you and most of us don’t know the medical lingo. You shouldn’t have to pretend you do. Laurie and Sylvia helped me make sense of it all.”
